Describe your office space to us:
I use the term office loosely as it’s really just a small corner of our condo. But it’s my corner, and I love every last inch. We’re lucky in that our condo faces south, which means that it’s flooded with light all day long. It makes toiling away at my desk for hours at a time significantly more enjoyable!
Where did the inspiration for your office design come from?
I tend to be drawn to a more feminine aesthetic, but I live with a boy. And said boy has his own ideas of good design. Seeing as my “office” is basically front and center when you enter our home, it was hugely important that it reflected both of our tastes. So with that in mind, I kept the palette neutral with a whole lot of black and white. I then infused colour through toss cushions, seasonal flowers, little desk accessories and the like. The neutral backdrop means I can easily give the space a whole feel with just a few small changes! This bodes well for my design ADD 😉
Which stores or websites did you go to to purchase your office decor?
Like many, we are on a pretty strict budget. We relied heavily on some of my go-to’s for the major purchases: West Elm, Rugs USA, Structube… I then infused a few little accessories from Waiting on Martha, a handful of Etsy shops, Anthropologie and the like.
What is your favorite part/design of your office design space and why?
Definitely our pipe bookshelf! My boyfriend, Justin, built it for me when we first moved in together. It’s like a piece of art (but pulls double duty as something totally functional which is essential in a small space where every square inch counts!)
Do you feel that having a well designed and inspiring office has changed the way you work?
Oh, absolutely. As an interior designer, my surroundings are especially important. I’m kind of OCD in the sense that everything needs to be just right in order for me to be productive. Luckily I’m a neat freak so it hasn’t been an issue quite yet.
