Describe your office space to us:
I’m an ultimate girly girl and I wanted my work space to reflect that. There’s lots of pink, glam, animal print, furry pillows and sparkle! I’m always an out of the box thinker, so I included a lot of my favorite things as decor, such as an old fluffy Betsey Johnson dress on a mannequin in the corner, and my Christian Louboutin shoes as book ends.
Where did the inspiration for your office design come from?
In general I find a lot of inspiration from Instagram (@scarlettlillian). I follow a lot of interior designers and fashion bloggers and daily scroll that morning and night to stay inspired and to help me visualize new concepts and ways to style things both in the home and in my #outfitoftheday. Most women like Pinterest, but Instagram is more my thing because I love using it to also inspire others and be interactive with girls of similar interests.
Which stores or websites did you go to to purchase your office decor?
Most everything in my office was ordered online! In this day and age, virtual styling is so much more convenient! I used places like homedecorators.com, zgallerie.com, etsy.com & wayfair.com (for my hot pink chandelier!) And other random decor pieces were bought in person from Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, American Signature, & Michaels. Book stores also serve as a great decor place because I used a lot of my favorite girly books throughout as placement for things to sit on.
What is your favorite part/design of your office design space and why?
My hot pink chandelier, because I mean, what girl wouldn’t be inspired to work sitting under that? It’s funny how I fell in love with it and bought it years ago, not knowing how I would use it one day. It sat around for about a year. Then we moved and I used it in my old dining room. Then we moved again, and I was like, why is it in my dining room? I need this in my office! And now it happily sits and sparkles each day with me here in my office and it’s such a perfect fit with all my branding!
Do you feel that having a well designed and inspiring office has changed the way you work?
ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Previously I shared a home office with my husband, and something about the energy just didn’t flow the same. It was really hard for me to be inspired to blog, and be inspired in general having to compromise on shared tastes for the space. I’m overly girly and need the freedom to rock that, so we now have separate offices, and all my creative juices have been flowing more than ever! Being surrounded by all my favorite things keeps me on track for the bigger picture of what visually what I want my brand to represent.
If you could use one word to describe the feel of your office space, what would it be?
Tell us about your company and it means to you to have a well-designed office space.
My company is The Decor Diva, a virtual home styling consulting service. My clients email me photos of their space they need help decorating, and I prepare for them a style board of what should go in their space, and a full shopping list of where they can buy everything to go in their home! My husband and I use to run a wedding photography business together, and ever since we announced our retirement from that industry, I had one person after another reach out to me telling me I needed to get into decorating based on photos I had posted of my previous homes that they loved. I kind of took it for granted that decorating was a gift God had given me, but now a simple passion has turned into an amazing job I love getting up in the morning for and helping others to have the home of their dreams also, both near and far! I always think about when I was in college and thinking of switching my major to something that didn’t pay well, and the best advice my mom ever gave me was “Do you what you love, and you’ll figure out a way to make money at it!” So now here I am in my 30s, starting over from scratch with a brand new career and though it takes a lot of courage to step away from the comfortable and start over, I’m loving every moment of it! And I can’t imagine doing it all without my glamorous new office space inspiring me to work hard everyday toward conquering this new dream! I mean after all, I sit under a hot pink chandelier every single day, how can I not be inspired to create something fabulous?
